ReadyWire3M
The Formax ReadyWire3M is a manual double-loop wire punch and binding machine, punching and closing 3:1 pitch wire spines up to 5/8" in diameter, all by hand crank with no motor. It's built for the office or copy room that binds every day but doesn't need an electric punch to keep up.
It's not the electric one. If you want the punch step motorized and only the bind closed by hand, that's the ReadyWire3E — same 3:1 pitch, same 5/8" wire, same 200 books an hour. The 3M is manual start to finish.
It punches up to 20 sheets in a single pass with a vertical, drop-in punch head, and closes a finished book up to 135 sheets thick. Paper width tops out at 14", and Formax rates the machine at up to 200 booklets per hour with one operator running punch and close in sequence.
The punch pins disengage without tools, so you can knock out custom hole patterns for oddball sizes without a screwdriver or grease on your hands. There's also a punch edge adjustment that moves hole placement closer to or farther from the booklet edge, and a paper width guide that keeps the stack square. An integrated bind size scale on the housing tells you which wire diameter a given stack needs before you commit to a spine — useful the first few times a new person runs the machine.
All three punch and bind double-loop wire, but they split on pitch and how much of the job is motorized. Pick by pitch first, then by whether you want an electric punch.

Formax positions this machine at shops doing 100 to 200 bound books a day — legal firms, schools and universities, government offices, healthcare facilities, and corporate print rooms turning out reports and compliance documents on a routine basis. It's not a machine for a 2,000-book run; at that volume you want something closer to the Punch100 electric punching system with foot pedal operation and interchangeable die patterns.
I'd point a district's copy center or a firm's document services team at the ReadyWire3M specifically when the volume is steady but not huge, and when the finished look matters — double-loop wire binding lays flat and opens a full 360°, which a comb or coil spine won't do.
Formax's ReadyWire spine wire runs about 10% thicker than industry standard, so it doesn't collapse or deform if a loop gets snagged pulling a book off a shelf. It's also engineered to close into a true circle rather than an oval, which is the difference between pages that flip freely and pages that catch on the spine after a few months of use.
The wire ships in Formax's own patented ReadyWire packaging — pre-formed and boxed flat instead of coiled loose. Loose-coiled wire from other suppliers tangles the second you pull on it, and once it's tangled it's scrap. I've seen customers write off a full box of third-party wire that way. Formax's packaging is built specifically so that doesn't happen.

What's actually different between the 3M and the 3E? Same pitch, same 5/8" max wire, same rated 200 books/hour. The 3E swaps in an electric punch head; everything else about the two machines is the same job done two ways.
How thick a book can it bind? Up to 135 sheets finished, with a punch pass limited to 20 sheets at a time — so a thicker book gets punched in batches and bound as one stack.
Do I have to buy Formax-branded wire? Most 3:1 machines in this class will run third-party wire of the right pitch and gauge. Formax's own ReadyWire spines come in tangle-proof packaging, which is a real part of what you're paying for if you've ever dealt with a box of loose wire.
What paper sizes does it handle? Up to 14" paper width, which covers standard letter and legal stock and most oversized report covers.
How big is the machine on a desk or cart? 18" wide, 13" deep, and about 18" tall with the handle in its highest position — worth measuring your counter space against before it ships.
