Emulex is the computer industry's preeminent source for a broad range of advanced storage networking infrastructure solutions

Emulex 804E Integrated SAN Switching

Integrated SAN Switching for Front-end RAID Solutions

As OEMs look at ways to differentiate storage solutions while also reducing overall system cost, embedded switching becomes increasingly important. Port Expansion of storage arrays increases the number of ports available for connecting servers and tape libraries on the front-end of a storage array. By integrating a FibreSpy SOC 804E within the storage array, overall solution cost considerably decreases, while increasing system scalability. Complexity is removed by using industry standard FC-AL 8-bit addressing allowing a higher level of system interoperability.

Benefits to Fibre Channel storage system designs that only Emulex can deliver to front-end architectures include:

  • FibreSpy SOC 804E provides a simple way to increase port count at a fraction of the cost, versus external fabric switches.
  • FibreSpy SOC 804E is fully compatible with existing Emulex, Agilent, and Qlogic IOC products on the market today.
  • Reduce the complexity and risk of SAN deployments
  • FibreSpy SOC 804E’s flexibility allows designs for both front and back-end port expansion.
  • FibreSpy SOC 804E is not E_Port based and can attach to any vendors fabric eliminating interoperability issues.
  • 8-bit FC-AL allows for a seamless drop in without modification to existing storage system designs.
