Q11: What options are available?
Q12: What does "00:UNCORRECTABLE ERR"
mean?
Q13: What is the difference between the
Ninja and the Ninja-F?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q1: What are the key functions?
The Ninja is compatible with any ATA or
SATA hard drive. Main functions include
"Duplication (Mirror Copy, Bad-Sector
Skip Copy, Data-Only Copy) and Security
Wipe (DoD, NSA. Raw Level Format). Additionally,
it provides a cross-copy function between
ATA and SATA as well as a clipping function
(capacity clip for target drive).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q2: What is mirror copy technology?
Mirror copy is a function where all sectors
in a hard drive are copied to a target drive.
It does not look at drive structures and
can therefore copy any type of known or
unknown data and OS system. The finished
product is two identical hard drives.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q3: What is a ?Backup copy??
Backup copy is a copy function that skips
bad HDD sectors and copies all good data
from the master HDD. Other copy functions,
such as "mirror copy," abort the
copy process when a bad sector is encountered.
Note: Bit compare function will not be
performed for this mode.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q4: What is the? Smart Copy??
YEC Smart Copy is a data-only copy method
that works for every OS. Other data-only
copy methods read the HDD file allocation
table in order to map a drive, and are therefore
limited to Windows OS. YEC Smart Copy analyzes
the hard drive on a sector-to-sector basis,
so it has no limitations (Unix, Linux, data-encrypted
drives..etc)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q5: What is the? FS Mapping Mirror copy??
The FS Mapping Mirror copy function analyzes
drive structures and only copies sectors
that are occupied by useful files and data.
This technology applies to all master drives
containing FAT16/FAT32/NTFS type partitions
(MS-DOS or Windows).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q6: What is the? FS Mapping Flexible copy??
The FS Mapping Flexible copy function analyzes
drive structures and only copies sectors
that are occupied by useful files and data.
It is able to adjust to various drive structures
and sizes. This technology applies to all
master drives that contain FAT16/FAT32 type
partitions.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q7: What is the Cross Copy function? (*Not
included for Ninja )
The Cross Copy function performs duplication
between ATA and SATA hard drives. It is
commonly used in producing temporary backup
drives. Cross Copy utilizes the mirroring
function so that all sectors in a given
drive are cloned from beginning to end.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q8: How do I operate the Ninja?
Turn on Ninja.
Connect Master and Target HDD to corresponding
HDD ports.
Select corresponding interface for each
drive (ATA/SATA).
Select desired function and press [START]
to initiate.
Once completed; Buzzer, LCD and LED will
signal the end of the operation.
Green LED signifies successful completion,
red LED signifies abort or problem found.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q9: Does the Ninja work operation systems
such as UNIX, and HPFS?
Yes, but not for FS mapping mirror copy
and FS mapping flexible copy functions.
Otherwise operation systems (OS) will work
for all ATA and SATA applications. (*Ninja
is only for ATA)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q10: Does the Ninja? work with any ATA and
SATA interface Hard Drive? (*Not for Ninja
)
Yes, for ATA drives, it supports LBA &
CHS addressing as well as PIO and UDMA interface
modes. All interface mores are supported
for SATA drives. Optional adapters are required
for 0.85", 1", 1.8" ATA Hard
Drives and 8 bit narrow and SCA SATA Hard
Drives.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q11: What options are available?
There are 1.8, 2.5 and 3.5 inch Hard Drive
conversion adapters available. Auto-loaders
are available for certain applications.
The standard Ninja software host program
includes a Terminal setting for script command
input for in-depth customization. Please
ask a YEC representative for script customization
options or availability of other options.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q12: What does "00:UNCORRECTABLE ERR"
mean?
"00: UNCORRECTABLE ERR" means
that you have a bad master HDD, meaning
that it is bootable but the HDD has bad
sectors in some area(s) of the disk. Solution:
Test the HDD using Ninja .
Set the HDD to Target
Perform [3:Once Cycle Test] in normal item
mode.
Check the results of this test. Device should
show error message: UNCORRECTABLE ERR with
specific sector #.
To counter this type of problem and still
perform the copy function:
Prepare known GOOD HDD.
Set the bad HDD to Master and set known
good HDD to Target.
Perform [5:BACKUP] to copy only good sectors.
Set the known good HDD (containing data)
to Master and set the new HDD to Target.
Perform [8:FS FLEX or FS MIR].
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q13: What is the difference between the
Ninja and the Ninja-F?
The Ninja-F has all of the same functions
as the regular Ninja duplicator with additions
for use in forensic computer investigation.
These additions are:
Ninja Ninja Kaze Ninja Forensic
