Building on the successful DLTtape platform and breakthrough magnetic tape technology, the Tandberg SDLT220 tape drive system sets new standards of capacity and throughput with 110GB of storage and sustained data transfer rate of 11MB per second in native mode. To achieve this breakthrough, DLTtape technology includes a number of technical innovations, including Laser Guided Magnetic Recording, Pivoting Optical Servo, Magneto-Resistive Cluster heads, a new high-efficiency Partial Response Maximum Likelihood channel and an Advanced Metal Powder media.

These advances ensure that DLTtape technology will be the industry-standard platform for long-term scalability in midrange and enterprise storage of the future, offering more than 1TB of storage capacity per data cartridge and up to 100 MB/sec. data transfer rate (native/uncompressed).

The Tandberg DLT8000 offers 80GB* of data storage capacity with transfer rates up to 40GB* per hour. This high performance DLTtape drive is ideal for midrange computers, network servers, high-end workstations and mainframe environments running NetWare, UNIX, Windows NT, Linux and proprietary operating systems.

The Tandberg DLT8000 maintains full backward compatibility (using the correct cartridge) with all previous DLTtape products. This includes DLTtape drives from Tandberg Data and other manufacturers.

The design and performance of the Tandberg DLT8000 offers 15% higher capacity and 20% faster throughput than the Tandberg DLT7000 tape drive. To ensure accuracy and data security, the Tandberg DLT8000 recording head has a average life of 50,000 hours and 250,000 hours MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure).

The Tandberg DLT8000 utilizes proven linear recording technology which includes a precision tape guidance mechanism and a head design with self cleaning features for reliability, four channel parallel recording and DLZ compression for performance, real time read-while write data verification, CRC, Reed-Solomon ECC for data integrity, TapeAlert™ and enhanced self monitoring diagnostics and to ensure optimum performance and reliability.

The Tandberg DLT VS80 tape drive features DLT technology’s first half-high, 5.25-inch form factor and offers 80 GB of compressed capacity and a 6 MB/second compressed transfer rate. Now PC servers or workstations can be backed up on one single tape cartridge housed in the server itself.
