ServerAttach FAQ - PDF (368 kb)
The Crossroads® ServerAttach SA40
has completed testing under the IBM TotalStorage
Proven Program and earned IBM TotalStorage
Proven status. This program provides Crossroads
customers with pre-tested solutions and
configurations to simplify the adoption
of storage networking technology.
ServerAttach Provides FC Connectivity
The Crossroads® ServerAttach SA40
quickly enables your mid-range SCSI servers
to access Fibre Channel (FC) storage. Many
SCSI servers either have no FC option available
or, if they do, they require costly upgrades
to the operating system (OS) and applications.
With the SA40, there is no need to upgrade
servers, thus minimizing server downtime
for installation. No HBA hardware, driver
software, or kernel modifications are required
for most installs. A simple user interface
even shortens the installation process into
several easy steps. With the SA40 you can
now connect up to four, or as many as eight
**, SCSI servers at once to your FC tape
and disk subsystems without making changes
to servers. The SA40 also provides enterprise-class
functionality with redundant, hot-swappable
power supplies and fans, as well as field
upgradeable and replaceable I/O modules
for easy maintenance and system port expandability.
Patented
Access Controls software embedded
on the SA40 further improves access to storage
resources by providing essential security
and host access into SAN environments. Because
todays policy-based data management
strategies require reliable business-critical
data protection solutions, the SA40 delivers
robust shared data access when you need
it at an amazing 300 MB/s maximum sustained
performance.
**
Requires purchase/installation of second
SCSI module for additional four SCSI ports.
Key
Benefits of ServerAttach
Consolidation of Storage Investments
Whether you already have a Storage Area
Network (SAN) or you are considering implementation
of a SAN, your business critical applications
and servers need access to the centralized
external storage resources on the SAN. The
SA40 enables the centralization of your
storage resources by allowing these resource
investments to be diversified across multiple
servers. To enhance the Return On Investment
(ROI) for your new and existing SCSI-based
servers, the SA40 provides valuable connectivity
to Fibre Channel resources.
SCSI
to Fibre Channel Connectivity
A growing diversity of storage protocols
lack support in many operating systems or
business applications. The SA40 delivers
a robust solution by providing protocol
conversion between SCSI-based servers and
the Fibre Channel architectures that are
used in the majority of installed SANs.
By leveraging Fibre Channel, the SA40 removes
the distance limitations associated with
SCSI, and allows access of FC resources
over extended distances. With this level
of enhanced connectivity, the SA40 stands
as the best solution to protect your investments
in SCSI servers and their hosted business
applications.
Business
Continuity
The SA40 also fosters enhanced security
by allowing direct control over each hosts
specific access to storage resources, down
to the Logical Unit (LUN) level. As a result,
entire tape libraries or even specific tape
drives can be hidden from selected hosts
while remaining visible to others. Access
to your SAN resources can be shared, allowing
multiple hosts to avoid conflicts with each
other while utilizing the same storage devices.
