The IBM 3582 Tape Library offers
a high-capacity, high performance entry-level
tape library system to meet a wide spectrum of
backup, archiving, and disaster recovery needs.
Basic configuration offers one IBM Ultrium 2 tape
drive and 23 cartridge slots for an available
capacity of 4.8TB of data (9.2TB with 2: 1 data
compression) and data transfer rates up to 35MB
per second using 200GB Ultrium 2 tape cartridges.
An optional second IBM Ultrium 2 tape drive can
be added. Two-drive configurations support partitioning
of the library into two logical libraries using
patented multi-path architecture. The IBM 3582
Tape Library offers 2 gigabit per second switched
fabric channel, LVD Ultra160 SCSI, or HVD Ultra
SCSI interfaces to attach to a wide spectrum of
open system servers. Two-drive configurations
support two drives of the same or differing connectivity
types. The Library can be configured as a standalone
desktop unit or can be mounted in an industry
standard 19-inch rack. Other optional features
include control path failover and a remote management
unit/specialist for remote library management.
Appropriate levels of host software are required
to attach the Ultrium Tape Library 3582 with IBM
LTO Ultrium 2 Tape Drives to selected IBM eServer
iSeries, AS/400, IBM eServer pSeries, RS/6000,
RS/6000 SP, IBM eServer zSeries Linux, Sun, Microsoft
Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Linux,
and other UNIX and PC servers.
The IBM TotalStorage Ultrium Tape
Library 3582-L23 and 3582-F23 is a rack-mount
entry automated tape library with an external
stand-alone option, PN 18P9237, offering high
capacity, performance, and technology designed
for the midrange open systems environment. It
incorporates the IBM Linear Tape-Open (LTO) Ultrium
2 tape drive providing up to 35 MB/sec native
data transfer rate (70 MB/sec with 2:1 compression)
and 200 GB native (400 GB with 2:1 compression)
tape cartridge capacity. This Ultrium Tape Library
3582 can accommodate one or two Ultrium 2 Tape
Drives and comes standard with a one-slot I/O
station, and 23 tape cartridge slots to cost effectively
handle growing storage requirements, providing
a media capacity of up to 4.8 TB (9.6 TB with
2:1 compression) data storage per unit.
